Client Background

In 1971, Oda Lassen saw a need within her community for wholesome, low-processed, additive-free foods and supplements, which led her to open the first “Lassen’s Natural Foods & Vitamins” location. Over the next 50 years, the business continued to grow within the Lassen family and expanded to 10 locations across California, all with a continued commitment to providing 100% organic produce.


In an effort to grow beyond California, Lassen’s Natural Foods & Vitamins acquired Papaya’s Natural Foods in 2023 and Marlene’s Market & Deli in 2024, moving into Hawaii and Washington, respectively.

Project Summary

Our team had been partnering with Marlene’s Market & Deli for 9 years prior to their acquisition by Lassen’s Natural Foods & Vitamins to provide website design & hosting services. Thanks to this powerful partnership, CCC was at the top of mind when a new, unified brand presence was needed. 


The idea was to create a unified theme that could be shared across all 3 websites while still leaving room for each brand’s unique charm to shine through. The project came with 5 key requirements:


  1. Create a streamlined template that could serve as the foundation of all 3 websites
  2. Highlight fresh food, recipes, and whole food options without adding 3x the work
  3. Ensure full ADA compliance
  4. Provide a fun, fresh design with a robust advertising space to entice new suppliers and highlight brands and products from partners
  5. Showcase community programs and educational classes

Solution & Key Outcomes

We started by working with the Lassen’s, Marlene’s, & Papaya’s teams to settle on a general website design that would work for all 3 brands and then got to work on building the sites with unique branding and flair. To facilitate the recipes and events, we used external collections via MAP Web that allow all the data to live in 1 place while appearing on all 3 sites. The completed sites came together beautifully and created a cohesive brand feel without sacrificing individuality. Finally, we installed UserWay on each site to adhere to ADA requirements and set the sites live.
